Vision, Expectation & Priority
When expectations are born fake, priorities are all wrongly set.
One of my colleagues used to say,
“brother it is not about project management, it is all about expectation management”
Though he understood the very core of project management but still I saw him failed.
When the vision is vague, expectations are born fake.
How vision becomes vague? It becomes vague with hiding the true intentions. Like, in vision statement you say, we want to become the best car company in the world, and in backend you are just looking for to reach the IPO.
Or, in vision statement you say, we want to be the best AI platform for communication, and in backend basically you are fatting a cow (startup) to sell.
In such cases, how a team leader can understand the true expectation of the employer. And after a certain period of time he realizes the priorities he set all were wrong as the owner is not satisfied.
Another colleague used to say,
brother its all about revenue and the vision is we want to earn x amount of revenue per year.
And to me it sounded more practical and less risky to focus on. But soon I realized it is just not about revenue but more about-
how you bring revenue
The business people just do not want to earn money but want to earn money smartly. Even they have a competition on how smartly one can earn more money. By smartly they mean less hassle, less cost, less people, less moving. And as soon as the revenue touches the desired station or even they see the revenue will come, the concern raises how they can have the same target fulfilled with less. So with existing resources they can double it.
The proper misuse of ‘less is more’.
